COVID-19 Updated County Restrictions
For the last several weeks, I have been advocating to get businesses and employees back to work with appropriate safety protocols. I have been sharing my concerns and those of the thousands of constituents contacting me with the Public Health Department as they weigh Public Safety Risks.

On Monday, June 1st, 2020, Santa Clara County Public Health Officer Dr. Sara Cody announced that the following businesses will be allowed to reopen starting Friday, June 5th with social distancing protocols and safety requirements:

  • Outdoor dining at restaurants and other facilities that prepare and serve food
  • Retail and shopping centers for in-store shopping
  • ALL manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics
  • House cleaning and other no-contact in-home services
  • Low contact/no contact service businesses including shoe repair, watch repair and other similar services
  • Pet grooming, without regard to medical necessity
  • Childcare, summer camps, summer school, and all other educational or recreational programs for all children (rather than just those able to work, which is already allowed), in stable groups of up to 12 children
  • Religious services, cultural ceremonies, weddings, funerals, protests, and other constitutionally protected gatherings, but only outdoors, in groups no larger than 25
  • All outdoor recreational activities that do not involve physical contact including lane swimming, hiking, tennis, camping, golf, Frisbee, etc.
  • Drive-in Theaters and Other Car-Based Gatherings
Schedule your COVID-19 test today! Schedule appointments online.
Pinpointing the virus through testing is one of the important ways we can hasten the road to recovery. To that end, the County has made it easy for people to schedule COVID-19 testing appointments online. You may choose from a list of all available drive-thru testing sites and appointment times throughout Santa Clara County. Anyone can be tested for free and there are no requirements for testing criteria, insurance or immigration status. To schedule a free test, click on the link below or call 1-888-334-1000.
Memorial Day Remembrance
Mike Wasserman speaking at Memorial Day Event
Like you, my family and I have been observing Shelter in Place and only leaving home as needed, to minimize contact with others. Last week, I ventured out and was honored to speak at Los Gatos Memorial Park’s first ever virtual Memorial Day event. Thank you Los Gatos Memorial Park for leading our community in honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. After leaving the Memorial Park, I spoke at the Los Gatos Veterans Memorial on Main Street to again honor our fallen heroes. To quote retired U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Major Bill Paxton: "May we never forget our fallen comrades. Freedom isn't free."
Kitten Season is Here
Each year the County Animal Shelter receives about 2,000 kittens who are too young for adoption and need foster care. Due to COVID-19, we face many additional challenges caring for these adorable fluff-balls. You can make a difference: Leave newborn kittens with their mom to increase their chance of survival and only bring them to the shelter once they reach 6 weeks old for spay/neuter. Join our foster team today!
Volunteer to be a Contact Tracer
The County of Santa Clara needs you to help with contact tracing to prevent widespread transmission of COVID-19. You don’t have to work in health care – talents of all kinds are welcome and volunteers will be trained by Public Health. The work can be done from home if volunteers have reliable internet, access to a computer, and a place to make private phone calls. We especially need volunteers who speak English, Spanish or Vietnamese.
Curbside pickup is here! Shoppers must wear face coverings, maintain six feet of distance, ans stay home if sick.
We appreciate everyone’s efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Santa Clara County. As businesses begin to open for curbside pickup, let's all take care of our retail workers and business owners by continuing to practice social distancing. Do not leave home without your face covering and make sure to wash your hands often. Try to order and pay online before showing up, and do not enter the store or place of business when you arrive.
